Taken by Keyhole Rock, Anawhata Beach on the West Coast of Auckland

This was definitely a night for the books. I had seen a photograph taken at sunset by keyhole rock. As I realised the sun set in the same direction as the milky way set I immediately wanted to get a shot of the milky way core through the keyhole. So I texted my friend Daniel and we headed to Anawhata beach at 1am and started walking down. We had to time the pitch black walk in under the Anawhata cliffs between the tides as perfectly as there was nowhere to go if the tide came in and no reception to call for help. We walked around the rocks under the huge cliffs in the pitch black and all we could hear were the waves roaring. We passed a couple seals that were just chilling on the rock and finally found our spot where we posted up and took a timelapse.

This is actually an image I took after the timelapse once we had realized the tide wasn't going to catch us. You can see our neighboring galaxy in the in the top right corner.

This Galaxy ain't big enough for the both of us.
